The Team: Morningstar’s Quantitative Research Group creates analytics based on data to help make better decisions. We use detailed analysis and large datasets to develop smart methods. Our research covers various data sets in Operations Analytics (such as People, Sales & Marketing, Investor) and Financial Analytics.
The Role: As an Intern, you will design, implement, and maintain systems that support our statistical software applications and data products. This role involves working closely with teams in Technology, Data, Products, Sales/Service, and Research.
You will collaborate with developers and analysts to create reliable and efficient software solutions.
We are looking for someone with strong technical skills who is enthusiastic about cloud technology and enjoys solving complex problems with technical teams. Continuous self-improvement and a collaborative mindset are important.
This position reports to the Manager of the Quantitative Research team.
Responsibilities:
- Designing, implementing, and maintaining systems for various quantitative research projects across different business areas.
- Working with developers and analysts to meet data requirements for research projects and applications.
- Automating workflows to extract, transform, and load data from different sources using Python libraries like Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, etc.
- Analyzing performance issues in the database layer and contributing to performance tuning efforts.
- Ensuring the quality of technical and application architecture and system design throughout the organization. Researching and comparing technologies with industry standards.
Functional Skills: - Preferred experience in Banking, Financial, and Fintech sectors within a corporate setting.
- Proficiency in adhering to coding, security, unit testing, and documentation standards and practices.
- Familiarity with Agile methodology.
Requirements:
- 0-1 year of experience in designing and managing large-scale database systems.
- Proficiency in SQL and Python is essential, with extensive coding experience in Python (3.6 and above) required.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science.
- Working knowledge of AWS Data Engineering tools like Athena, Glue, EMR, and DynamoDB is desirable.
- Exposure to Agile software engineering practices.
